Wonderland Camp

On May 17, 1970 the Missouri Jaycees were approached by Charles Miller, who had a dream of developing a camp in the Lake of the Ozarks for children and adults with mental and physical disabilities. The Missouri Jaycees immediately went to work and started construction. The camp had its first campers in 1972. The Missouri Jaycees have been instrumental in the continued success and progress of Wonderland Camp.    The camp has seen many changes and improvements through the years.  The Jaycees will continue to support Wonderland Camp financially as well as provide physical labor during the Jaycee work weekends.

About 2012 Program Manager Chris Thompson

I am very proud and excited to serve as the program manager for Wonderland Camp this year.  When I was sixteen, I began working at Wonderland Camp as a counselor and I was hooked immediately. After turning eighteen a friend of mine in the Jaycees invited me to join.  Eight years later I am still volunteering during the summer as well as at any Jaycee event benefiting Wonderland Camp.  As the Program Manager it is my responsibility to raise funds and assist any chapter wishing to run a project for Wonderland Camp.

The camp provides opportunities for individuals to experience that they may not get to otherwise.  The week that campers get at camp each year is one of the most memorable for them.  Please take a moment to check out the testimonials and find out other information at www.wonderlandcamp.org

The Missouri Jaycees, either as a group or in local chapters, can run projects that are small or large to help raise funds and items for camp.  The money raised throughout the year helps maintain camp and also sponsors campers across our state.

One major focus of 2012 is renovating the wheelchair accessible ramp that provides easy access to the lakeside area.  This pathway has deteriorated over the years, and it is becoming unsafe for campers to use this trail.  Our help to repair and make it useable is needed.  We encourage chapters to sponsor sections, gather materials or anything you can do to repair this trail.

There are great opportunities in store for the Missouri Jaycees and Wonderland Camp this year!  I hope you can make it to one of our work weekends.  If you would like to run a project to benefit Wonderland Camp, please contact me so that I may assist you.  I would also like to encourage you to visit and tour the Camp, especially during the summer.  Wonderland Camp is an amazing place...come and experience it today.
